Water Color Integration With Types of Rocks.
Overview of Lesson
The lesson Went really well. It worked well for an assessment to see what the children had learned from the previous techniques taught. They were able to identify different types of rocks well but many of the students had forgotten the process for the water color techniques. Even when a review was given many struggled. The two that were the hardest were the salt and alcohol. After putting the salt on they would continue to put water on making the effect be unsuccessful. Some students would paint with the alcohol which takes away from the effect of dropping it into the water color. This informed us that review was necessary. Mrs Nickerson then reviewed water color in another class. A week later though Mrs Nickerson had the children make pebbles and tear the paper into rock shapes to make a poster that is now in their classroom. It was so cool how the watercolor integrated into science and their classroom.

Day 2: Depicting Different types of Rocks In Watercolor.
Objective: Have each students portray a rock type of their choice using a watercolor technique.

Flat Wash = layers = sedimentary
Wet on Wet w/ Salt = something changes it = Metamorphic
Alcohol= Lava bubbles = Igneous

30 min Work Time:
Classroom will have three different stations for each techniques.
Each student will have previously picked their favorite technique/ rock. They will be divided to each station and first draw a rock from observational drawing. They will then paint their type of rock using the assigned watercolor technique.
